American Marten Painting
American Marten Painting
This painting of an American Marten (with cameos from a Prairie Deer Mouse and some honeybees) was a focal point of my first solo show, “Curaga.” All of the species depicted here are threatened on some level in the midwest, and my body of work for the show explored the connections between them.
Trapping accounts for up to 90% of American marten deaths in some areas. The peak North American trapping year for American marten was 1820, in which approximately 272,000 were harvested.
